DIY SEO Guide
Setting up your website on your own for now?
Keyword Research
Use free tools like Semrush, Google Ads, or WordStream to find the right keywords. Don’t just focus on single words; look for questions or phrases related to your product, service, or content.
Avoid Keyword Duplication
Each page should target different keywords. Don’t repeat the same phrases across your site—keep it unique.
Using Keywords Wisely
Name your images and add alt text using your keywords, but don’t overdo it. Describe the images accurately, and only include keywords when they fit naturally. Google can tell when you're forcing them in.
Headings Matter
Every page needs an H1 (Heading 1) with your main keyword in it.
Home Page Content
Ensure your home page has at least 300 words, with keywords included throughout.
Optimizing URLs
Rename your links to include keywords from your research. Update the URL slugs for SEO benefits.
Meta Titles & Descriptions
Keep your meta title under 60 characters and your meta description under 160. Even if some platforms allow more, Google cuts it off, and you might lose important details.
Site Speed
Your site should load within 7-10 seconds. Test your speed on gtmetrix.com or similar tools. They’ll highlight issues and offer tips on how to fix them.
Google Search Console
Is your site connected to Google Search Console? It should be. Each platform has its own process, so check the steps for yours.
Mobile Optimization
Make sure your site looks great on mobile. Links should be spaced properly, pop-ups shouldn’t cover the screen, and text should be easy to read.
